Bake Street London: Burgers, Birria Tacos and Creme Brulee Cookies!

Bake Street is a cute little halal cafe/ bakery in North London that serves coffee, baked goods and some random but absolutely delicious food items too. It’s a place that has a local’s favourite kind of vibe to it. There’s no signage, so you may miss it, but it is right next to the Edi food & wine store.

We got their famous creme brûlée cookie, a Nashville chicken burger and Birria tacos. I did say random offerings didn’t I?

The creme brûlée cookie

This is their showpiece, their showstopper, the thing they are most famous for on instagram anyway. We heard they sell out quick, so we were quite anxious going in whether we’ll be able to grab one or not. Thankfully, we were. Creme brûlée is one of my most favourite desserts, so the idea of it being in a cookie was enticing indeed. Did it live up? It sure did! It was everything I’d imagined it to be (almost…). Slightly hard/crispy exterior with a soft creamy interior and the it just got creamier as you get closer to the centre. The exact same sensations of a creme brûlée – the crispy brown sugar top and creamy goodness inside. I love how they recreated this sensation. Genius! I mentioned it was ALMOST everything I’d imagined it to be because I think this would be so much better if it were served warm. It was cold and even though it was absolutely delicious and I have been craving it since, I feel it could have been even better if it were warm!

The Nashville hot chicken bun

Just look at them pictures. I think pictures really do speak louder than words and it cannot be more true than with this one. The size of the chicken was impressive and kinda took us by surprise, but after the first bite boy we were definitely not complaining! It reminded me a lot of my favourite burger ever (Nashville chicken burger from Pickl Dubai). I loved the size of the chicken, the bun was perfectly fluffy and held up well from start to finish. The taste of the chicken was juicy and a good amount of spice (not too hot, but that’s coming from someone who can handle spice). This might be the best chicken burger I’ve had in London thus far!

The birria tacos

Another thing of beauty! This is the fourth place now we’ve tried this dish and this one is probably the most unique. It was different to the other places. The lamb meat was definitely the star of the show here. It was so juicy and succulent, the consommé (which you have to pay extra for) wasn’t even really needed. You also need to choose a salsa/dip along with it. We went for jalapeño and garlic (which was the second hottest) – this was such a good dip. We used it for our other items too!

We also got waffle fries. My wife needs some sort of fries whenever we eat out. It was delicious just like all their items and it made for the perfect accompaniment to everything else really.

Overall, a lovely little spot which offers some really interesting items. It seemed like a busy spot with locals as people kept coming in to takeaway and dine in. There’s no seating inside, but there is outdoor seating available. So, keep that mind before your visit.
