İstanbul Patisserie: Hidden Turkish dessert cafe in London

Turkish desserts are the most underrated part of the cuisine and at the same time probably my favourite desserts in the world too. Hafiz Mustafa in Istanbul was literally our favourite spot in the city and we visited every single day. And ever since we’re always on the look out for a good Turkish dessert spot. We recently discovered a hidden Turkish cluster in one of the quiet corners of Enfield London, where we found a number of authentic Turkish spots including a charcoal kebab one, tantuni one, kunafa one and a pide one. From them there is this Turkish dessert cafe: İstanbul Patisserie. Read on to find out if it lives up to others we’ve tried.

İstanbul Patisserie

In a typical Turkish dessert cafe you’ll find drinks and desserts. Drinks include Turkish tea and coffee. Desserts include baklava, homemade Turkish biscuits, cream cakes and milk cakes (trilice). This one had the lot. And the desserts are all on display, so if you have a sweet tooth, you may be overwhelmed. These guys also do Turkish breakfast, which we did not try on this occasion.

Our experience

Our favourite dish in our favourite spot in Istanbul (Hafiz Mustafa) was undoubtedly the caramel milk cake. It was so delicious. Creamy, sweet and oh so moreish. It has to be my number one dessert in the world. Ever since trying it, we’ve been looking for this in London. And even though we’ve found a couple spots that do it, we haven’t really found one that hits the spot like Hafiz Mustafa. It seems the caramel milk cake is difficult to master. So, we ordered the caramel milk from here and some Turkish coffee too. How was the milk cake? Have we finally found our spot? Well, let’s compare it with the other two places in London that does it. It is better than the one in Mehmet Efendi in Whitechapel, which lacked freshness and creaminess. And it is probably almost as good as the legendary Antepzade one. I mean let’s put it this way, if I lived near this place, I wouldn’t crave or want to travel to Green Lanes.

Getting there:

Parking: The road round the corner from the restaurant (Brick Ln, Enfield EN3 5BA) has unmarked parking spots (free parking). Other than that most roads are Sundays and Weekends free.

Nearest Mosque: Palmers Green Mosque is a bit far (15 minute drive), but I think the closest one with female facilities unfortunately. Enfield Islamic Centre is closer (4 minute drive).

Nearest station: Southbury
