Milk Train is a cool little ice cream cafe in London. They are home to the UK’s first candy floss ice cream cones, candy floss milk shakes, and other wonderful creations inspired by travels. We got a couple of things including this beautiful ice cream dessert here. The second is a game changer!
Candy floss ice cream
This ice cream was called “at the movies”. Actual popcorn and salted caramel chips on soft serve vanilla ice cream with a candy floss cloud. Looks the part I’m sure you’ll agree, and it tasted amazing too. The popcorn worked really well with the ice cream. And then the candy floss too… Such a harmonious trio. For me, this was just a little tricky/messy to eat (so I wouldn’t get it again). Evidently it was created with instagram in mind more so than ones mouth. Tasted good though.
Croffsant
The second thing we got… Is it a waffle? Is it a croissant? It’s a CROFFSANT! This is revolutionary. You seriously have to try this. Yes, Milk Train is known for their ice cream, but this thing right here was actually our favourite. It looks like a waffle, but as you take your first bite you realise it ain’t no waffle. Tastes like a fresh croissant, but slightly crispier. A wonderful mix of two classics. A mind boggling journey for your senses! Okay, it probably isn’t that deep. But you seriously have to try this! You can also get it topped with ice cream and other toppings, but we wanted to try it as is to truly put it to the test. FYI: Since then, a lot of dessert parlours have come up with something called the “croffle”, this is the same thing and from my own personal observation, Milk Train were the first to popularise this in the UK.
They also have wonderful coloured choc versions of this (4 different flavours), which weren’t available when we went. So, we’d love to return to try these. They also have started doing this creme brulee hot chocolate, which looks and sounds like a dream! Need to go back to try that too!
The cafe itself has a wonderful interior – clean retro train like. You can create your own ice cream dessert from scratch with wonderful flavours and additions. The menu, however, is unclear, with only a few options on there. A lot of what you can order is actually not even on their in-store menu. We had to point at the poster outside to get the ice cream dessert.
Overall, great tasting ice cream/ dessert and a revolutionary creation (the croffsant). A bit tricky to eat and the in-store menu needs working on. But a fun place to visit – one that the kids would love! (Grown kids too of course).
