Darlish: the viral baklava ice cream sandwich

How does a baklava sandwich with saffron, rose and pistachio ice cream sound? A dream right? At Darlish, this dream can become a reality! Darlish are a luxury ice cream parlour that produces unique Persian inspired flavoured ice cream. You can get their ice cream in tubs from Waitrose, but what really gets social media excited about them is their baklava ice cream sandwiches.

View their website here.

Baklava is an Arab/Turkish dessert or pastry that has crunchy layers of pastry that is drizzled with syrup or honey to make it super sweet. Add nuts into the mixture and you have yourself wonderful bites of joy. Crunchy and sweet paired perfectly with a cup of tea or coffee. In Turkish restaurants these days it is served with Turkish ice cream to add a creamy and cold texture to the already bundle of deliciousness. If you haven’t tried this combo, where have you been? Anyway, Darlish, originally from St Albans, have taken that idea and developed these little baklava sandwiches that include unique and very creative ice cream flavours.

How was it?

I think you don’t need me to tell you how amazingly perfect this combo is. As good for your taste buds as it is for the gram. Unfortunately, this is in theory only. As it was decent, sure. But the baklava itself lacked the famous crunch and so it wasn’t the same as what you’d get in Turkish restaurants. Also, it is a little difficult to consume with the flimsy little spoon you get. Please, don’t get me wrong, it was good, but I feel this has the potential that it didn’t quite meet. Also, it’s a tad expensive at £7.50 – £8!

Also, I love the fact that it has this exclusiveness to it. It is only available during the summer months. So, go grab it while it is still here or you’ll have to wait till next year!

Getting there

Available in St Albans, Covent Garden and Hatfield.
