Chin Chin Labs: the best ice cream in London

London is not short of innovative, creative and unique food concepts, so it is no surprise that Chin Chin Labs is a London institution that has revolutionised the ice cream game. Arguably the most creative ice cream concept and many would argue the best in quality too. In London anyway. These guys have changed the ice cream scene with their creativity and uniqueness. This post will highlight some of their creative traits and also detail our experience of the few things we tried from there.

The concept

Ice cream made from liquid nitrogen. Tell me that doesn’t sound revolutionary, exciting and something that catches your interest instantly. Well this is what Chin Chin have done. They decided to enter the ice cream market in London and try out something new, something fun and take a jab at becoming the pioneers. It was a risk. And boy did the risk pay off. Now, many claim this to be THE best ice cream spot in the capital. Their main branches are in Camden and Soho with a few pop trucks here and there. Uniquely, menus at the respective branches differ. So, what you can get in Soho you won’t find in Camden. From what I recall, Soho has the most variety. We’ve visited both the branches a few times and we’re impressed always. In Camden branch you’re able to watch them make the ice cream with the liquid nitrogen, which is an experience in and of itself. From what I recall, you can’t do that in Soho. Not only is the process intriguing, but the flavours are also super interesting. Think Bee Pollen Honeycomb, Tonka bean, Pistachio & Cardamom Powder, Marshmallow Fluff and Glossy Cherries. Make sure you check it out yourself, it is very interesting and you’ll literally be spoilt for choice. Now, let’s talk about what we did try.

What did we try

Brownie Cookie Sandwich

This was our first experience of Chin Chin. The cookies were fresh and paired perfectly with the ice cream. Aesthetically beautiful of course as you can see.

Sticky Toffee Pudding Sundae

We tried this on our recent trip to the Camden Market. Sticky toffee pudding is warm, welcoming and comforting and perfect as a winter dessert to warm your body and soul. Yeah, I know it ain’t that deep. Couple this with a nice scoop of ice cream and you got that hot and cold dessert combo I love. So good! Hit all the right spots.

Burnt Butter Caramel

They’ve got a number of different ice cream flavours to choose from as alluded to earlier, but our go to and our favourite is the burnt butter caramel flavour. It’s so unique and it’s got a nice small hint of a burnt flavour. Trust me, you have to try it!
