Coqfighter: the best halal chicken burger in London
In this post we document our experience trying the best chicken burger in London during Lockdown!
Coqfighter - London

My burger preference is a beef patty, but fried chicken is my ultimate favourite fast food. So, for me when a fried chicken burger is done well, it is up there with the best of them! Couple this with the fact that I’ve been hearing so much about Coqfighter and seeing all the irresistible pictures on instagram, we knew we had to go try. We went to the one in Boxpark, Shoreditch.

The Good

We ordered the green chilli cheese burger. The burger was aesthetically beautiful and looked perfectly assembled. It looked like it was made for taking pictures of for instagram. It came in a white box, which upon opening gave off wonderful aromas. You can smell the green chilli / pepper. Fell in love even before the first bite. The size threw us off a little bit as it was a lot smaller than we imagined and than it looks in the pictures – the bun was like a cross between a slider and a burger bun. But, the patty was hefty enough. I’m not complaining about this as I’m all for quality over quantity. And this had quality. The taste itself was amazing. It wasn’t spicy as the name suggests, but it was delicious nonetheless. Everything you want from a fried chicken burger. The bun didn’t just look good, but it also was strong enough to hold the burger and not fall apart (hate it when that happens). It stood its ground till the last bite! I still think the burger I had at @eatpickl Dubai was my favourite fried chicken burger ever. But my wife certainly thought this burger was one the best she’s had – and she’s the one who usually orders chicken burgers. The price was £9.75 for the burger alone, which is fine I guess because of the quality you are getting in return.

The Bad

Coqfighter need to update their Google records as the boxpark branch states that it is open for takeaway – when actually it was not. This can create inconvenience and annoyance for some who may have travelled far. Yes, we can just stand outside and order via deliveroo, but this may be inconvenient for some. I must say, I was slightly annoyed by that. No big deal as ordering via deliveroo was simple and the food was ready within ten minutes!!! Impressive! Unfortunately, we could not select the pickup option so it had to be “delivered”. We entered the exact same address as the restaurant itself, but of course we were charged for delivery. We were charged £1.99 for delivery and £0.49 for service. This hurt because I was literally standing outside.

The Ugly

The burger came in a box and nothing else with it. No tissue or anything to wipe yourself after. I would expect something considering it’s a burger!! Something you eat with your hands and something which is usually messy. Definitely would expect it considering the price for the overall experience.

A note on my food reviews:

I do not want to give a number rating because of 2 reasons. 1- I feel taste is subjective. 2- I feel so many factors can affect your dining experience, of course taste is the biggest thing, but there are other internal factors (customer service, manners, lack of serviettes etc) and external factors too (you not feeling well, upset stomach, headache, needing the loo, having a bad day, in a bad mood etc). For me anyway, these other factors can affect the whole experience and as a result reduce the score, but these are factors that won’t be experienced by everyone. What makes a dish or meal truly epic is that consuming it eradicates any pre-existing external factors you had before whether it be a headache, fight with your spouse or rough day at work, once you take that first bite you forget everything else for the next half an hour or so. Now that’s a sign of epicness.
