A 7 star experience: Afternoon tea at the Burj al Arab Dubai

Close your eyes. Think of luxury. Think of the epitome of luxury. Most would be imagining the city of Dubai now. And then probably that uber luxurious 7 star hotel – Burj al Alrab. One of the most luxurious hotels in the world where one night would set you back by about £1500! If thisn’t is once in a lifetime, I don’t know what is. Not many will be able to afford a stay here, so thankfully they provide an opportunity into a glimpse into this life. They offer an afternoon tea service, which is more affordable and still as luxurious. In this post, I’ll detail the whole experience from the booking to the end.

the booking

Booking this once in a lifetime experience was very straightforward. You simply have to email them at this address: baarestaurants@jumeirah.com and tell them how many people and what time you’d like to book it for. Here are the details as of February 2021.

Location: Burj al Arab Dubai

Price: AED 635 per person

Times: First seating, 13:00 – 15:00 and 13:15 – 15:15
Second seating, 16:00 – 18:00 to 16:15 – 18:15

the Decadence

You know a place means business when a particular dress code is required. You are expected to dress formal or at least semi formal (especially the men). As our taxi driver dropped us off outside the hotel, we saw all the flashy cars lined up outside and we saw the glitzyness of the hotel from the inside. Everywhere we looked we saw gold (or what we imagined to be gold). Everything in the hotel just screamed luxury and decadence and basically Dubai in a nutshell. We were escorted up to the skybar accordingly (this is where the afternoon tea takes place). We didn’t get a window seat, but that’s where you’ll also get amazing views of the Palm Jumeirah and The World islands.

the food

Whatever you would usually get at an afternoon tea, you were served here AND MORE! The quality can be tasted with every single bite. You get a selection of teas (hot and ice – you must try their ice teas!) and coffee, delicious sandwiches, and the freshest pastries and cakes. The best scones with clotted cream and jam bites you will ever take were found here. Non-alcoholic champagne with gold flakes (I mean cmon!). Now, all this raving about the taste of the food can just be my eyes that were blinded by the whole occasion and everything I put into my mouth tasted good, but either way, the Burj al Arab have succeeded then haven’t they.

the overall experience

If you want to feel like a superstar for a few hours, then this is something you MUST try. At least once in your life. It isn’t cheap, but it is most definitely worth the money. Treat your loved ones with this experience and I can guarantee you, it’ll be a hit. From start to finish, it was an unforgettable experience as much for my eyes as it was for my stomach. To conclude then, make sure you add this to your travel bucket list if you haven’t yet. And if it’s on there, make sure you experience it the next time you’re in Dubai.
