As a halalxplorer, I like to explore traditional foods of the country and city I visit. So, Interlaken and Switzerland is no different. This post will highlight the halal food scene of Interlaken. I’ll try to include every halal spot I came across in my research whether I visited it or not. And it will be divided into 3 main categories: fast food, Indian/ Pakistani and Arab.
Fast food:
The first category is fast food. Fast food here is essentially pizza, burgers, doner and fries. Pretty standard and nothing special, maybe except for the first two on this list.
Asllani’s Corner – this is the best halal spot and arguably the best food spot in Interlaken period. They do gourmet high quality burgers. The one to try for sure is their unique raclette burger (raclette is a Swiss special cheese). Read more about them here.
Palmyre Interlaken Halal Take Away & Pizzeria – they do the infamous doner pizza. This is famous in Scandinavia and especially in Sweden. Something that will probably offend Turks and Italians alike, but certain Europeans absolutely love it. Unfortunately, it is not so common in the UK (I’ve never seen it), so I’ve never tried it. But also unfortunately, this place was unexpectedly closed. We visited them on the first night and they were closed. I contacted the owner via WhatsApp and he read the message, but didn’t respond. We visited the following night and they were closed again. Shame.
FoodPark
Napoli Pizza
Indian/Pakistani:
The second category is Indian and Pakistani. These spots make up the majority of the restaurants especially the halal ones. If you go to the town centre, you’ll see loads of such restaurants. This could be due to influx of Indians in the town, which could be due to the amount of Bollywood movies filmed here. This is a Bollywood director’s favourite European destination. So much so that Yash Chopra even has a statue dedicated to him there! Which one to visit? I mean the choice is yours, but we chose the first one as it had the highest rating on Google.
MAHARAJA Indian Restaurant
Kashmir
Taj Mahal
Taste of India
Taj Palace
Spice Village Indian Restaurant &Tandoori Specialist
Indian Tandoori
Restaurant Kashmir Mahal
Arab:
The third category is Arab. There’s a Lebanese and a Syrian place in the town centre amongst the Indian restaurants too, which may be worth checking out.
Layaly Beirut
Arabic Restaurant
Bawwabat Dimachq
Bakery:
Being in such close proximity to France and Germany and being influenced by them so much, it is definitely worth checking out their bakeries for some delicious finds. Look out for Zopf, spinach tarts and Berliner doughnuts and you won’t be disappointed.
Bäckerei-Konditorei Steininger
Bubble tea:
Can’t go wrong with some bubble tea. They’re everywhere now even in a small town like Interlaken!

Overall thoughts and recommendations:
In all honesty, the halal food scene isn’t great here in Interlaken. I mean there are plenty of options as you can see above, but when you take into consideration how much a meal in Switzerland costs (we paid £60 for chicken tikka and veg biryani plus a small naan and chips), it really isn’t worth it. There’s nothing special or noteworthy on offer that justifies spending so much. The only thing I would recommend is Asllani’s Corner and that raclette burger. Other than that especially if you’re on a budget, I’d just recommend going to the supermarket and getting yourself some bread and some sandwich fillers (and they have a nice interesting variety to be honest) and just surviving on that for most of the trip.
