Food to try at the Zurich HB train station in Switzerland
If you plan to explore Switzerland by train, it is very likely you'll end up at Zurich HB, the main train station in Zurich. Here are some snacks to try.
Food to try at the Zurich HB train station
Brezelkönig

One of Switzerland’s most famous and popular pretzel brands, Brezelkönig, can be found all around the country and thankfully there’s a shop in the Zurich HB station (there’s also one at the airport if you’re not coming to this station). Their pretzels are big, fresh, handmade and hand-tied. They’ve got basic ones to filled ones to more Swiss unique ones. There’s a rosti one that stood out for us (rosti is a famous Swiss potato dish) and a raclette one (a famous Swiss cheese). Both are suitable for vegetarians by the way. Unfortunately, the rosti one wasn’t available at this branch, so we got the raclette one. It was decent, but a tad salty. The night before we got the basic butter one and despite it being basic and us purchasing it late at night (when baked goods are usually at their worst form), it was sublime! One of the best pretzels we’ve had! This place is an absolute must stop before your train ride as a nice big pretzel makes the perfect train snack with a cup of coffee.

Super Guud

Right next to the pretzel place you’ll find this spot. They do wonderful fresh croissants, sandwiches and treats. Perfect snacks and things to nibble on while on the train. They’ve got a variety of croissants and with such close proximity to France, you’d be mad not to try croissants when here. The perfect start to the day with cup of coffee. Their sandwiches are on a whole another level. We got a couple of their vegan sandwiches and they were soooo good. I’m going to use a superlative again and do so with no hesitation. One of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had was from here!

Zopf

Zopf is the local bread that you have to try when in the country. It’s a thing of beauty that’s for sure, but what about the taste? It was quite unique tasting in that it was like a cross between brioche and a slight hint of a pretzel. Lovely! This is often consumed in the morning. I can see it going perfectly with a cup of coffee. They have a whole Zopf Bakery here (called Zopf Bakery), but you can pick this up from most bakeries or supermarkets.

Drinks and Snacks

Of course you’ll need snacks and drinks when on the train. There’s a few supermarkets scattered around the station where you can pick up your goodies. We recommend the Rivella drink, Zweifel paprika crisps and Cailler green hazelnut chocolate. Read more about Swiss snacks here.
