Notting Hill is literally brunch central. It feels like every other eatery is a boujee brunch place. Tab x Tab are relatively new players in the game, but have taken the scene by storm. Many rate it as their favourite brunch spot in the area even the whole of London! It is that good and has impressed visitors that much! So, what are they known for, what did we try and would we recommend it?
Tab x Tab
The menu is fairly straight forward with a limited number of dishes on there (8 dishes on a one page menu!). That’s usually a sign of quality food i.e. whatever they do, they do exceptionally well. They’ve got the brunch classics like avocado on toast, scrambled eggs, eggs Benedict, pancakes and French toast. They’ve also got a chicken Katsu sando, which is halal. As well as the food, they’re also known for their high quality speciality coffee. So, be sure to try out a drink if you’re a coffee lover.

The vibe inside is calm and chilled much like you’d imagine a typical brunch spot in Notting Hill. Tight, intimate and minimal. We went on a Sunday and it was very busy. We had to wait about 30 minutes before being seated. They close at 4 pm, so get there early (which I’m sure you will anyway if you’re going for brunch). We decided to order two of the most popular items on the menu. As we were waiting outside, we looked around and noticed these two coming out on most tables: the French toast and the scrambled eggs and creamy mushroom on toast.
Berry French Toast
So, the Berry French Toast is a uniquely shaped French toast. It is a thin rectangular Brioche toast served alongside fresh strawberries and vanilla chantilly cream. I am pretty sure when we went (a couple of weeks ago) it was £9, but I see on the website it states £9.50, so maybe the price has gone up since then? Anyway, let’s talk about the taste. DELICIOUS. It tasted as good as it looks. The texture of the toast had a nice balance of moistness and crunch and then coupled of the strawberry and cream, it was incredible. This has to be one of the best French toasts I’ve had in London. My only complaint here is that I wanted more! The thin slice was devoured in seconds (literally); it’s worth two or three bites, which if you think about it, makes the price look a bit dear (especially if you see how much you get with Eggbreak’s famous French toast). Nonetheless, I have zero complaints about the taste. I’d happily go again, get that again and recommend others to do so too!
Scrambled Eggs and Creamy Mushroom on Toast
My responsibility was to choose the sweet dish (which was easy) and my wife had to choose the savoury one. So, it was between this and the avocado on toast for her. The more times we saw this come out, the more convinced she became that it was this she wanted. The price was £13. The scrambled eggs and the mushrooms had a lovely creamy texture and flavour. The creamy egg taste complimented the mushroomy taste (umami maybe?) of the mushrooms perfectly. Delightful! I think we’d like to try the avocado on toast next time though.
Overall, this has set the heights high for brunch spots in Notting Hill and we can definitely see why many rate it so highly. Is it the best? It is too early to say to be honest (we plan on going through some of the most popular brunch spots here), but it is definitely up there; especially that French toast!
