Camden Market has recently become extremely popular thanks to TikTok and Instagram. So, when we decided to go on a Saturday, we were expecting extremely long queues at each and every spot – Alton Towers (theme park) kinda queues. We did want to try out as many of the hyped spots as we could. So, we were expecting queues at all of these spots. To our surprise, we faced absolutely no queues whatsoever except for one place – this one. Meat Head who do the ultra trendy Birria tacos. And it is halal!
Did it live up to the hype?
We ordered the chicken and beef ones. This just felt like the most popular spot in the whole market for a couple of reasons – 1. The long queue. 2. After we got our food literally everyone who walked past us either looked a little too eagerly or made a “yummm” kinda comment. Did it live up to the hype? For me personally, it did not. It was decent, but maybe because I have tried this dish on the Edgware road spot (read more) before this and that for me is the standard now. This was unable to match their taste and quality. The meat to cheese ratio just wasn’t to my taste – too much meat. The guacamole was a decent addition, but what is on offer with the Edgware road spot – the amount of meat, cheese, the corn tortillas and flavoursome consommé with the addition of salsa and the pickles was just so harmonious. Maybe I shouldn’t compare, but the bar has been set high. And unfortunately, for me this place didn’t reach those heights.
It’s definitely worth trying though if you haven’t tried birria tacos yet. Just for me, this isn’t the best version of this dish you can get in London.
