American style fried chicken spots are becoming more and more common in London now. @slimchickensuk is right up there leading the way.
We got the mix and match meal, which included 3 tenders and 3 wings, Texas toast and fries. You get to choose from a wide variety of sauces (15!!) – we opted for the slim sauce and gravy mayo. Plus a drink for £10.95.
Not the usual chicken and chop greasy feeling…
Can’t go wrong with fried chicken. It’s probably my favourite fast food. So, of course this hit the spot. The chicken didn’t taste as unhealthy or greasy as some other places. So, that’s a plus point. But, the wings seemed to lack that typical fried chicken crunch and texture (if you know what I mean). Still had the flavours though. The sauces were amazing!! Didn’t really see the point of the toast to be honest – maybe that’s an American thing? I prefer my toast in the morning with eggs and beans. Edit: a Slims UK buyer has reached out and kindly explained the purpose – it’s used as a side (think garlic bread) and it’s native and authentic to Southern US. Which is fair enough – I appreciate the authenticity.
Family friendly
The place itself is nice and clean and very modern looking. It’s a place you can happily take family to. Unlike your typical British chicken and chip shop.
Overall, a great clean tasting fried chicken place. Would I pay that much for fried chicken? Only if it was the best fried chicken in the world – this wasn’t. But for the ambiance and the cleanliness and the family friendly nature, I’d happily go in if there’s one near me. But if I’m looking for a quick chicken and chip fix or I’m out with the boys, this wouldn’t be a stop for me.
