Trying out McDonald’s in Jakarta Indonesia
McDonald’s around the world is fascinating and one of the most interesting menus is found in Indonesia, so we had to check it out when we were in Jakarta!
Trying McDonald’s in Jakarta Indonesia

Trying McDonald’s in Indonesia seems like one of the must try eats when in the country. For those who know me know that I love to try the local food and I am totally against those who go abroad only to then end up munching on McDonald’s and KFC every evening. However, one cheeky halal McDonald’s or KFC meal when in a Muslim country can’t be a bad idea. Nonetheless, this isn’t the reason for trying it here. As many of you know McDonald’s localise their menu in every country they enter. So, it’s always exciting to see what a McDonald’s has on its menu when abroad. Indonesia is supposed to have one of the best dishes going on their menu. And that’s why we’re here.

Disclaimer: I am not supporting or condoning giving your hard earned money to such organisations and I try to stay away from them as much as possible. This was back in September and honestly if it were now (i.e. post October events), I personally wouldn’t go anywhere near it. I intend to boycott them moving forwards.

Rica Rica Chicken Rice

This was delicious. We couldn’t believe this was made and served in McDonald’s!? The rice was fluffy, the sauce was flavoursome and packed a kick and the chicken pieces complimented the whole dish impeccably.

Panas Special Spicy

This was basically scrambled eggs, fried chicken and rice. A strange combo, but something common in this part of the world. The fried chicken was so so good that I genuinely think it gives KFC a run for its money. And I love that it had a spicy kick to it.

Klepon Cake

McDonald’s in Indonesia have their own bakery!! Whaaaat!? They serve hot drinks and cakes. We got the klepon cake, which is a modern take on the classic Indonesia sweet – klepon.

Pie A La Mode

We in the west treat apple pie with McFlurry as a hack. Pie a la mode is basically that but served as a standard item on the menu.

Lychee iced tea

Indonesia love their iced teas and I’m kinda embarrassed and a little gutted to admit THIS one here was my favourite one I had. I cannot stress how good this was. England needs this!

How have they got a prayer room inside the restaurant!?

An icing on the cake and boy what an icing. How have they got a prayer room inside McDonald’s? A proper tell me you’re in a Muslim country without telling me you’re in a Muslim country moment. Very impressed with this touch.
