Manchester is known for its spicy chicken burgers like Philadelphia is known for its Philly cheesesteaks. There are many legends on the scene, many who claim to be the pioneers and many pretenders. We did a separate post on Miami and mentioned how they are known to be the best. And if we stick to football references, they are the Manchester United of the spicy chicken burger scene. This post is going to be about one of the new comers, Shake Bee; they’ve not been around for long especially in comparison to the longstanding spots like Miami, Philadelphia and Kansas, but they are definitely making the loudest noises right now.
Shake Bee
The new boys on the block, the noisy neighbours (football reference), the Manchester City of the spicy chicken burger scene. This is the one that is attracting all the current hype and many are claiming it to be the best spicy chicken burger in Manchester right now. A lot have come out and said it has surpassed Miami and as with any place that is popular there will inevitably be critique: some have claimed it is overhyped and the taste just does not match up to the more older established institutions. It was very reasonably priced at £4.80 for the chicken burger meal when they originally opened, it is now £5.50 or £5.80. Surprised about the price change in such a short space of time in comparison to how long the others have been around and how their prices have hardly increased. Anyway, it is still reasonable considering the market. How was the taste though?
The taste
We ordered the spicy chicken burger meal, which came with fries and a drink. We also got some spicy wings and bbq wings. I won’t make this longer than it needs to be. The chicken burger was insanely good. Like insane! One of the best chicken burgers you will have! I see the hype and believe the hype. For anyone who’s read my Miami review, they’ll know my love for that spot. This was right up there. Right up there! Did it beat it? It’s a tough call, but for me Miami slightly edges it. It is spicier, it is more cost effective and they are the OG. Also, I found it strange that it took more than half an hour to get my order and even though yes it was busy, but it wasn’t Miami busy. Yet, I got my order from Miami a lot quicker. Nonetheless, it’s a burger definitely worth driving down to Manchester for. Yet again, the Manchester spicy chicken burger scene delivers. And with a bang! Oh and I almost forgot the wings. The wings were AMAZING. I don’t think I’ve ever had spicy chicken wings that literally fall off the bone. Literally. Taste wise they were amazing of course as they had the same taste as the burger.
