The Pakistani community is big in Dubai and as a result there are numerous authentic Pakistani restaurants scattered around the city. Not only in the old Dubai area where it is a given, but also in places like Al Barsha and Al Karama you’ll find really good quality authentic Pakistani food. This isn’t food that is watered down to cater to a certain palette, but like true home cooked well spiced food.
One of the best Pakistani restaurants in Dubai is Ravi. They have been serving authentic Pakistani food to the Dubai locals since 1978, which is old in Dubai terms, and they now have 3 branches. Like other Pakistani restaurants they are open for 24 hours a day or almost that. They do some of the best breakfast around in the morning hours (from the dawn prayer till around mid morning): that is the famous Pakistani breakfast, Halwa Poori; which consists of poori, halwa and chana masala. You can also get the flavoursome Nihari and brain curry. There are few better ways to start a day to be honest. The Halwa Poori is typically only available during weekend mornings. During the day you can get your typical Pakistani curries like the karahi and chicken curry. You can also get biryani and grilled kebabs too. You’ll be spoilt for choice if I am being honest. One visit to this restaurant will not be enough.
The name of the restaurant comes from a river in Lahore, Pakistan. The name of the owner is actually Abdul Hameed. A true cult status restaurant in Dubai that stands proud in three restaurants. Satwa is their original branch and it is believed to be the best. Next time you’re in Dubai, ditch the “instagram” restaurants and try local favourites like this one. You will not be disappointed!
Adidas has launched a very interesting series recently where they are collaborating with iconic eateries around the world in 11 different cities. Guess what? Ravi from Dubai was chosen as one of them! Read more here.
