Is this Manchester’s best bubble tea spot? It’s got all the ingredients of a typical bubble tea joint. Cool, hip and trendy interior. Queues outside. And an intriguing menu!
We ordered:
Strawberry tea with cheese foam
This is a cheese tea, which is a drink (tea or fruit flavoured) with slightly salty cream cheese on the top. It doesn’t sound like the most appetising drink, but it is absolutely amazing! Very refreshing. Strangely, it’s like drinking cheesecake (in a good way). Cheese tea is all the craze in China and Taiwan as bubble tea is such an old and common drink (you can even get it at Mcdonald’s). I’ve had cheese tea in Beijing and it didn’t really stand out for me as being anything special. But this was aaaamazing. Again, it may not be for everyone, but we loved it! We love the Xing Fu brown sugar milk tea a lotttt! This one was so good, it competes with that one for us. Can’t choose between the two right now. We’d go back for this alone! A more detailed post on cheese tea to come soon. This has to be drunk a certain way where you get a bit of the cream cheese along with the strawberry tea. This is crucial for the experience as you can easily have a bad experience if you drink it in a way where all you get is the cream cheese.
Ohayo shiba sundae earl grey milk tea
The ice cream of this sundae was a unique and very interesting earl grey milk flavour. The tea flavour was fairly strong meaning the ice cream wasn’t very sweet. It was okay – pretty refreshing. The ice cream flavours change: they’ve had bubblegum, honeydew melon and ube flavours in the past.
Premium brown sugar tapioca milk with cheese creme foam
This one did not work for us. This was a combination of bubble tea and cheese tea. It had tapioca pearls at the bottom and cheese foam at the top. If you’ve had cheese tea you’ll know you shouldn’t drink it with a straw – you drink it through the provided lid at a 45 degree tilt – this ensures you get the right amount of cream cheese and tea (very smart!). Also, if you’ve had bubble tea, you’ll know you need a straw – to enjoy the tapioca pearls. Combining the two creates a problem – you have to compromise one. This drink compromised the tapioca pearls. So, you have it like a cheese tea, which means you can’t enjoy the tapioca pearls. Also, I don’t think the cheese foam works as well with a milk drink or even a straight tea drink as it does with a fruity drink.
Ohayo Peach Star
This is basically green tea with peach flavour and apple flavoured grass jelly. Looks amazing and I actually like it – very refreshing. But the wife did not like it at all. It may be because I am kind of used to green/jasmine tea from my time in Beijing.
Ohayo Shiba waffles from Ohayo Tea
They also do these small waffles filled with different fillings. Fillings include tapioca pearls and red bean. We opted for HK style peanut butter. It was good, but I think if I were to get it again, I’d go for a different filling.
Which one of the three intrigues you the most and would like to try?
Does anyone know the significance of the Shiba dog?
