1. Check your Budget
The obvious place to start will be your budget. Figure out how much you have to spend on a hotel. The last thing you want to do is find the perfect one and then not be able to afford it. My advice: be kind to yourself. Even though you will probably be out most of the time, there’s no feeling like coming back from a tiring day to a nice comfy hotel room. Ahhhhh.

2. Location
As they say location location location. It is one of the most important things to look out for when it comes to booking a hotel. There are a number things connected to location.
The first thing we look at is the distance from the centre of the destination or whichever area most of your places of interest are in. This is key as it will make life very easy. The further away it is, the more effort it’ll cost you to get to and from. Closely linked to this are the transport links that are nearby. This of course depends on the city you are in and what kind of public transport is available to you.
You can also check how many shops there are nearby for the emergency purchases – this will be a lifesaver. Likewise, look to see what kind of places to eat there are nearby (Google Maps is really good for this).
3. Facilities
These will range from luxury to necessity. But here are the things we look out for in terms of facilities in a hotel. Good WiFi, clean bathroom, towels and toiletries (if they provide, then it reduces my luggage – I don’t need to pack towels and toiletries) and freebies (water, tea and coffee maker). Breakfast is something all hotels provide, but the quality and price will differ. You need to weigh up whether you want to spend on that. We usually do go for the breakfast option as it allows for some luxury.
Reading the negative reviews will give you a great insight into what the hotel is really like.
