Agua Miel (@aguamiel.ldn) is London’s first dedicated churros cafe. If you like churros, then you definitely need to visit this cafe. Actually, if you like sweet things, then you need to visit this cafe! Here you’ll get freshly made churros fried, cut up and coated right in front of you. Churros are such a popular street dessert all over the world including in London itself (some good ones in the Camden Market), so I am surprised no one has taken the initiative to open a dedicated cafe before. It is always a crowd pleaser and a perfect as you walk kind of snack and dessert. This post is going to detail who Agua Miel are and our experience with them.
Who are Agua Miel?
They are London’s first churreria, which is a shop or stall or cafe that is dedicated to selling churros. They make their churros fresh to order and they are made in-house. I fact you can literally see them frying your churros up for you, and then cutting them up for you and then coating them in cinnamon and sugar for you!! This is a churro lover’s dream!
The menu
Their menu is focused and specific (which we love). Knowing what they want to do and not trying to do it all or too much. The star of the show of course is the churros. The churros get coated in cinnamon and sugar (you can choose not to if you prefer) and then you can just have as is or choose from a variety of dips. They’ve got chocolate, dulce de leche and condensed milk. They also have authentic Mexican hot drinks like the horchata (sweet rice milk) and the hot chocolate. You can do what Mexicans do, use the hot chocolate as a dip! And that’s not it… they also do something that is bound to capture the attention and eye of many especially in the summer months. And that is the churros sandwich (aka sarita). We didn’t try that on this occasion, but it’s something we’d be tempted to go back for!
Covent Garden
This area of London is not short of quirky cafes and delicious niche different eateries. So, I feel Agua Miel will fit right in to this area. And this is evident as people are queuing up to try this treat here. This is definitely one of the must visit dessert spots in London this summer. And I am sure this success will continue into the foreseeable future.
Our experience with them
What did we try? We got the churros along with a condensed milk dip. Churros were fresh and hot. And they tasted like they were fresh and hot too! Slightly crispy and crunchy on the outside and soft and cakey on the inside. Just like a good fresh churro should be. The cinnamon and sugar coating – I loved, but my wife found it to be a bit too sweet. This of course is something you can cater to your liking. The condensed milk dip provided for a creamy accompaniment (much like custard does for a cake) and an extra layer of sweetness. I didn’t try the other dips, but I feel this sounded like the best one and definitely tasted good! This is one of those places where one visit isn’t enough. I definitely want to return to try the sarita, horchata and maybe the dulce de leche dip too. If you’re wondering why I didn’t mention the hot chocolate, I’m not much of a hot chocolate fan.
The four churros were £6.80 and the dip was £1.50. Some may it is steep, but come on… it is London and a very central touristy part of London and it is 2024. When are we going to stop claiming such things are too expensive?
Is it halal?
