Le Cube Robuchon (aka the viral cube croissant) is the name of this piece of art and Le Deli Robuchon is the name of the gallery.
New York, whatever you can do, we can do better! If you’re from or near London or follow London foodies, you can’t escape seeing this all over your socials. It’s taken over. Literally! It is essentially London’s answer to the viral supreme wheel croissant of New York. And boyyy what an answer! It’s a croissant in the shape of a cube (as you can see from the pictures). You can get it in three fillings: vanilla, chocolate and matcha + jam. They’ve also got a rose cream one coming out for one day only (Monday 30th January), so do check that out if you can. And they’re currently priced at a pretty handsome £6.95. Essentially, you’re paying for the novelty aren’t you? If you have to reserve a croissant worth that much at least 24 hours in advance due to its popularity, you know its viral and novelty status for sure.
Mustapha Ait Elaouam
Le Deli Robuchon is the deli/bakery that has come up with this piece of art viral sensation. But do you know who the specific baker behind it is? It’s a genius Moroccan gentleman, Mustapha Ait Elaouam! A talented baker who is the head baker at the Deli and someone who we will surely here more from and about. Bravo sir! We love to see it. View their website here.
Has it got gelatine in it?
I was asked this on TikTok and even though I knew it hadn’t, but just to make sure, I got in touch with the head baker himself and he has confirmed for me that it does NOT contain gelatine.
Our experience
We got the chocolate filled cube croissant and the croissant itself was delicious: flaky and buttery. The chocolate filling was rich and something chocolate lovers would like, I’m sure. I think I would’ve preferred the vanilla one, but to be honest it didn’t look as good as the other two for the Gram. And we’re not matcha fans, so by process of elimination there was only one choice. I couldn’t justify spending so much on croissants, so only one it was for this time. If only the rose one was available then, I would’ve definitely picked that one.
How to guarantee getting one?
We’ve seen numerous failure stories and we experienced one ourselves too. They sell out quick!! Not just on the day, but a day before! We went a week before this and because we just showed up and assumed it’s just a croissant, unfortunately, they had sold out and so we left empty handed. So, to make sure you get one, you MUST reserve it at least 24 hours in advance. Ring them and be patient (as sometimes during busy hours they take a while to pick up). On the day, they have it ready and packed very nicely – in a fancy bag and box. Almost jewellery like! Makes it feel like a proper novelty item. We saw NUMEROUS bags and the person serving us had a pages and pages of names of those who had reserved one. Viral is an understatement it seems. I do wonder how long this will last…
