1.Rasa Sayang
This spot in Chinatown London specialises in authentic Malaysian and Singaporean cuisine. Serving up classics like Nasi Lemak, Roti Canai and Hainanese Chicken Rice. The restaurant isn’t very big, but it is usually very busy. You’ll most likely have to queue up for up to about half an hour before you get a seat. Is this the best halal restaurant in Chinatown? In our opinion, quite possibly.
Recommended dishes to order: roti canai, BBQ chicken satay and Hainanese chicken rice.
2. Monga Fried Chicken
Fried chicken is probably a lot of people’s guilty pleasure (I know it is mine!). Taiwanese fried chicken takes fried chicken to the next level. You usually get to choose from a variety of spices to liven up the chicken and the size of the fillet it also very notable. In Chinatown there are actually a couple of halal options for you to try this street food staple. The most popular and famous spot is Ji’s Chicken shop – this is evident as you see the permanent queues outside the shop. We had to wait over an hour the first time we tried it. However, we think Monga does it better. It is cleaner (hygiene rating included), no queues and the chicken tasted better.
Recommended dishes to order: thick chicken fillet and popcorn chicken.
3. Mamasons
Now that you’ve had your mains (Rasa Sayang) and you’ve nibbled on some street snacks (Monga) too, naturally it is time for dessert. There are many dessert options in Chinatown (click here), but this one right here is exclusively halal (as far as we know). Read our dedicated post on Mamasons here.
Recommended dishes to order: ube bilog and the ube coco.
