The national dish of Malaysia. Often consumed for breakfast, but to be honest it can and is had for any meal of the day. It is made up of fragrant coconut rice with spicy sambal, hard-boiled egg, cucumber slices, peanuts and ikan bilis (dried anchovies, for my Bengali followers basically shutki). This is the basic form. You can get many other accompaniments such as fried chicken – my favourite! An absolute treat of a dish regardless of time of day. Very addictive and the different components, even if they seem random, marry together like Harry and Meghan.
So, the big question is where is the best place to get it at in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia? Ask the locals and at least 8 out of 10 will tell you Village Park Restaurant! An absolute legend of a restaurant in Kuala Lumpur especially for the national dish: Nasi Lemak. The place is always busy with a capital b. Ram packed with locals and tourists looking for local grub. Their Nasi Lemak is constructed beautifully and each element of the dish looks like it has received an equal amount of love and care. The rice is aromatic and flavourful. The sambal is a good amount of spicy. The peanuts brings the crunch. But the fried chicken… the fried chicken!! The fried chicken is what these guys are really famous for. The fried chicken on its own will be probably be the best fried chicken you ever have! It is so good that they even serve you the best bit of the fried chicken separately sprinkled on top i.e. the crunchy outer bits of a fried chicken. Genius!
Overall, this place certainly lived up to the hype and we totally recommend you to visit when in Kuala Lumpur.
