80 dishes + rice!! Nasi Campur translates to mixed rice. It is a dish eaten in Southern Thailand, Malaysia, and across Indonesia. It is basically rice with a variety of Malaysian/Indonesian curries. At a Nasi Campur place you usually get a plate of plain white rice and then you fill up that plate with different curries, sides and dishes – all from a buffet like line of food. Usually the amount of dishes to choose from is outstandingly impressive!
Kampung Baru
In Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia the area of Kampung Baru, is an amazing local foodie area to explore. It is not a tourist hotspot and so you will only find locals dining humble food in humble settings. This particular establishment was massive with canteen like open air seating. Dining here you feel the authentic vibes, you feel like a local! Which is one of the best things about traveling!
The food on show was amazing. You get to choose from an impressive 80 dishes to fill up your plate with. You got curries, sides, chicken, meat, veg, fish, salad, sambal, sauces – I mean the list can go on. Eighty dishes!! The standout dishes and the ones you must try are the spicy aubergine dish, the jackfruit curry (a must!) and the spicy fish head curry.
Apart from the Nasi Campur, you can also get the Ikan Bakar, which is charcoal grilled fish and Kuih, which is Malaysian sweets.
Price? We got two plates of food packed till we could not fill no more all for under £2! I love Malaysia and how cheap life is there. Love it.
You have to check out the Kampung Baru neighborhood the next time you’re in Kuala Lumpur and in particular you must enjoy a Nasi Campur dining experience!
