Embark on a flavourful journey with Juma Kitchen, a hidden gem nestled within Borough Market. This Iraqi culinary haven beckons food enthusiasts with a tantalising array of dishes that capture the essence of Iraqi gastronomy. Here’s a delightful exploration of the offerings that make Juma Kitchen a standout in Borough Market.
Kubba: Iraqi Dumplings Delight
Begin your culinary adventure at Juma Kitchen with Kubba, a traditional Iraqi delicacy resembling dumplings. The menu features both beef and vegetarian options, each meticulously crafted to capture the authentic flavours of Iraqi cuisine. The outer layer, made with a blend of spices, encases a filling that promises a burst of savoury goodness. The exterior is crispy rice and in the interior is fluffy rice with spiced meat. Couple this with a dip into their traditional dip (Amba) and you got yourself a wonderful little snack. Amba resembles mango chutney and we would’ve never thought about coupling it with this, but it works!
Iraqi Mixed Grill: A Carnivore’s Delight
For those seeking a carnivorous feast, the Iraqi Mixed Grill at Juma Kitchen is a must-try. Immerse yourself in the symphony of grilled flavours as succulent meats, marinated to perfection, come together to create a dish that pays homage to the rich tradition of Iraqi grilling. This culinary masterpiece showcases the art of meat preparation. The lamb kebabs were decent, but the chicken ones were outstanding. It was grilled to perfection and tasted really good. The chilli sauce that came with it complimented the kebabs well too.
Kunafa: A Sweet Culinary Finale
Complete your culinary sojourn at Juma Kitchen with the sweet indulgence of Kunafa. This beloved Middle Eastern dessert features thin noodle-like pastry soaked in syrup, creating a delectable medley of textures and sweetness. It’s a delightful conclusion to your meal, offering a taste of the sweet side of Iraqi culinary traditions. We’ve had kunafa before, numerous times, but this one was different. It was light and it had a very subtle taste difference too. I think there’s orange blossom in there because there was this very slight and subtle floral twist in the taste.
