Eggbreak: the legendary Notting Hill London brunch spot

Eggbreak: the legendary London brunch spot

London and specifically Notting Hill is literally brunch central. There are so many brunch options it is unreal. You will be spoilt for choice. Think boujee, minimalistic, tight, intimate, queues and instagramable dishes. From the wide variety of choices in Notting Hill, there is one standout spot that is regarded as one of the best brunch spots in the area and maybe even London. And it has held that title amongst foodies for many many years. And that place is none other than Eggbreak. A brunch place that has brought eggs to the forefront and isn’t shy about it neither. As their tagline suggests: eggs all day every day any way. There are a number of similar mindset places around the city now, but arguably these guys are the pioneers. In this post, we’ll discuss a little bit more about them and our experience dining there.

Eggbreak

There are a number of egg central eateries in the capital where eggs are the main star of each and every dish. However, arguably the pioneer, the trendsetter and the most popular from them all might well be Eggbreak of Notting Hill. A small neighbourhood restaurant that specialises in brunch dishes. Their notorious queues are a testament to their quality. Two hour queues are not unheard of. Maybe a little bit of a hack here, but we went at 3 pm on a Sunday (literally brunch day) and were able to walk straight in… no queues. The restaurant itself is small, tight and intimate in terms of space and minimalistic in terms of decor. The menu is full of brunch classics with their must try dishes being Turkish eggs, avocado on toast, fish cake and the uber popular Nutella French toast. We decided to try two of these.

Check out their full menu here.

Nutella French Toast

If you look up Eggbreak on Instagram and TikTok, the one dish that is going to be common in most of the reels, posts and TikToks is this Nutella French toast. Arguably the most popular dish on the impressive menu. At £14, it may seem a bit pricey, but when you get three full slices (compared to the half a slice at Tab x Tab for £9), it is relatively worth it. It is French toast that has been filled with Nutella and also coated with cornflakes. It comes with mascarpone and maple syrup. If you’re a Nutella lover, this will be right up your alley. The cornflakes added a nice crunch. And the mascarpone and maple syrup added a nice sweet creamy contrast to the distinctive Nutella taste. Unfortunately, it just didn’t do it for me. It was surprisingly extremely dry – I mean to the extent that I needed a sip of water after every single bite – and that is no exaggeration. My wife, on the other hand, actually did enjoy it (well more than me anyway). When I put up the pictures on Instagram, many of my followers claimed that it DOES look dry with one saying they thought it was cake rusk and not toast.

Avocado on toast

While I didn’t enjoy the star dish from the menu, my wife AND I absolutely loved this one. The avocado on toast here was insanely good. I mean it usually is anyway, but it really did hit all the right spots here. And with their additional condiment, the tabasco sauce, it just elevated it the dish that much more, especially if you’re a spice lover. It added a spice kick and really just brought the dish up to a whole new level. We were really impressed.

Overall, a great brunch spot with really intimate and cosy vibes very appropriate to the Notting Hill scene. We tried two of their classics, but there is so much more to explore from their amazing menu. I can’t wait to go back and try more.
