Charcoal House: the best restaurant in Luton
In this post, we discuss which restaurant or takeway is the best in the town of Luton. Charcoal House is home to one of the best meals you'll get in Luton.
Charcoal House Luton

Luton is home to a number of different halal takeaways and restaurants, but sadly not many compare to the high standards set by other cities and towns where halal restaurants are prominent like London, Manchester, Birmingham and Bradford. Charcoal House, we feel, is one of those gems that can compete with the big boys. It’s a little hidden gem located in the town centre. They only have a few seats, but boy their food and in particular their grilled chicken, is on a level that is comparable to the best out there. Read on to find out more.

A little about them

Charcoal House is in the town centre of Luton on a popular and buzzing street called Chapel Street. They describe themselves as a Mediterranean & Lebanese grill restaurant & takeaway. It’s a tiny little restaurant with a few seats on the main floor and then a few more downstairs in the basement. Most go in for a takeaway. They have been around for a number of years now, but it is one of those hidden gems that I think is rarely spoken about. Ask any Luton resident what their favourite food spot is and you won’t find many shouting this place out. Odd. Nonetheless, the food here is insanely good and most importantly consistently good.

Grilled chicken with Kabsa rice

We’ve tried a number of things from here including their kebabs, but quite easily our go to order and one we keep coming back and one that evidently is very popular with others is their grilled chicken on kabsa rice. It is the perfect meal that always hits home at any time of the day whether you’re starving or full! It is seriously that good. The grilled chicken is chargrilled to perfection and you can taste the smokiness almost burnt (but not) taste in the chicken and it just is done to perfection. The rice is flavourful and goes very well with the chicken. There’s usually Lebanese style salad accompanying the dish, which adds a freshness and a crunch. What brings everything together are the sauces – you have to have this dish with the sauces. Two: a tomato chill sauce and a garlic sauce. When you combine all of the above into one bite, you will have yourself one of the most comforting and satisfying bites of your takeaway life.

Overall, this is probably our favourite spot in Luton and as a result if anyone is ever in the town, we always recommend to hit this place. And we’ve always received positive feedback. So, next time you’re here or near, give it a try!
