Yolkin

London foodies will be aware of the insta-famous Yolkin of Chinatown and they’ll also be aware of the sad news of a couple months ago when they closed their doors for good. News that saddened foodies close and far. Yolkin was a popular spot in Chinatown that did Macoron ice cream sandwiches. Aesthetic and delicous might I add! Unfortunately, they are no more.

New Adventure

Fast foward a couple months and they’ve returned with a different, new and a very innovative dessert. What is the innovative dessert? It is basically crepes shaped into a cone and then filled with crème brûlée filling. Sounds insane right? Genius and so creative! London foodies have flocked here to try this and all I’ve seen is overwhelming postiive reviews. Apart from the original, they also have a couple other flavours: pandan and hazelnut. We only tried the original, but would love to have tried the pandan one – maybe next time.

Our Experience

Unfortunately, we didn’t enjoy it as much as everyone else as we personally prefer the crème brûlée to be hot and this one was cold. However, you can’t not applaud the creativity here. Very impressive. So, this is a spot you have to visit and try London’s first crème brûlée crepe cone! You may be with the majority and actually like it unlike us.

There is a negative I want to touch upon though. The service was extremely slow. We went on a Saturday afternoon and understandibly it was very busy; this stall was probably the busiest. What didn’t help was the fact that they seemed to take absolutely ages to take orders and then make the dish. Like painfully slow. I hope with time this can be improved upon as it is a new venture, so maybe we can give them this as an excuse.

Quick fact: the name (Boolay) comes from how the owner’s daughter pronounces brûlée – cute!
