What kind of holiday is right for you
There are many types of holidays you can go on. From a nice relaxing beach holiday to an action filled city break. There are many factors that can impact which type of holiday you should go on. Factors include budget, who you are traveling with (kids?) what you want from the holiday and how adventurous you are.
The last thing you want is to be left disappointed and unsatisfied after planning and getting all excited for weeks on end.
In this guide, we will list some types of holidays and who these holidays are for. We’ll keep in mind all the factors mentioned above and highlight some pros and cons of each type of holiday.
The last thing you want is to be left disappointed and unsatisfied after planning and getting all excited for weeks on end.
Beach Holiday
The first type of holiday we’ll take a look at is a beach holiday. What we mean by beach holiday here is to solely be on the beach or thereabouts for the entire time as opposed to a city break with a beach visit. These can range from a luxury resort type holiday like the Maldives or a more budget friendly one. It can also be abroad or even within the home country. Which one you choose will depend on your budget. But choose a hot destination or a hot time of the year. It can also include pebble beaches or sandy beaches. For a beach holiday, I personally wouldn’t choose a pebble beach. Pebble beaches are usually good for walks, but not necessarily winding down and enjoying the sun.
The pros of beach holidays are that you can really wind down. If you’ve been working hard recently or have been stressed with life’s pleasures, then a beach holiday to just relax and do nothing may just be what you need. A con is that if you are the type that always likes doing something on holiday, then you’re going to get bored quickly. You can have fun on the beach, but the amount and variety of things you can do may not last you a week long holiday.
City Break
If you are the type that likes to visit restaurants, museums and other cool activities around a busy hustle and bustle city, then most definitely a city break is for you over a beach holiday. If you’ve never visited a country before, an excellent place to start may be the capital city. London, Tokyo and Paris are perfect examples of the potentials available to you. You will not run out of things to do and places to eat at that’s for sure!
The pros are as mentioned above – you have a plethora of options to keep you entertained. However, if you are the type that does not like crowds or just wants to wind down, then you may not enjoy yourself. The cons of city breaks include the busyness of the city – not only the locals, but more problematically the tourists. Not only does that make the city too touristy and then this raises the prices and reduces the authenticity of the place, but it also it means long queues everywhere you go. Each day of your trip will be long and tiring. Fact.
For beach experiences, you can opt for a city that has a beach (like Dubai) to get the best of both worlds.
Family Holiday
Traveling with your family is going to be different to traveling with your friends. So, you’ll need to take into consideration a lot more factors and you’ll need to plan a lot more thoroughly. Will kids be traveling with you? How safe will busy cities be for young children? Will your teenage boys get bored on a beach holiday?
There is definitely a lot more to consider, but nothing that planning well cannot solve. For busy cities you can go during quieter times of the year when there will be fewer tourists and therefore smaller crowds. For beach experiences, you can opt for a city that has a beach (like Dubai) to get the best of both worlds.
If you’ve been working hard recently or have been stressed with life’s pleasures, a beach holiday to just relax and do nothing may just be what you need.
Camping trip
If you want to reconnect with mother nature, a camping trip will be right up your alley. This one is really for the adventurous type. The whole feeling of surviving outdoors is something that will excite many. Think lighting fires and s’mores… If you are not comfortable with the outdoors as you’d like to be, but you still want to experience the outdoors, a good option may be a cabin (but is that really camping then?). You get the feeling of being outside without really being outside. A camping trip is something I think great for kids! If you enjoy the finer things in life – comfy bed, nice shower, heating – you won’t enjoy camping.
Hiking or Trekking trip
This will be a day trip or an excursion you go on while on a city holiday. And this’ll be for those who enjoy the thrill and enjoy the outdoors. This is a rewarding experience no doubt due to the views you get at the top of the mountain or the feeling of accomplishment. But if you are not fit or you have a fear of heights, this may not be for you.
