London is full of wonderful and quirky attractions and things to do and the food scene is no less adventerous. American style pancakes are absolutely delicous as are the thinner British style ones, but why not push yourself a little and try something different? You may just discover your new favourite pancake style (spoiler: we did!).
1. Matcha Pancakes from Avobar
These matcha pancakes from Avobar in Covent Garden are to die for! So unique, daring actually super delicous. They come with caramelised banana, maple syrup and avo-butter. This was definitely different to usual pancakes. It was sweet with a hint of savoury. You can taste the matcha, but only just about. It tasted more like banana bread to be honest, which I love. So, I really did enjoy this. Make sure you take it all into your bite though – the pancake, banana, maple syrup and avo-butter – delicious!
2. Poffertjes (Dutch mini pancakes) from Camden Market or My Old Dutch
You can get Dutch pancakes that are large (cross between American pancake and crepe) and those that are mini. These are mini pancakes. Delicious and fluffy one-biters! They are very popular in the Netherlands especially as street food during the summer.
3. Japanese Souffle Pancakes
This is my favourite pancake style. I love how it is airy and light like a souffle yet flavourful (depending on the toppings) like a pancake. The perfect combination. There are a number of places in London that specialise in this treat.
