Our experience

The customer service here is second to none. They really look after you. There is this attention to detail which is very praiseworthy. They’ll make recommendations to cater to your tastebuds and likes. Really impressed with their love and attention to please.

After saying all that, what really matters is how good the food tastes. And thankfully, I can say we were very impressed. We got the bento box which is completely customisable. In our bento box, we got katsu chicken curry, gyoza, miso soup and a mango mochi in ours. It also comes with a salad and drink. Everything was delicious with a capital D. The katsu curry was comforting as usually a good katsu curry is. I love that curry sauce, fried chicken and rice combo = unbeatable. The salad had a nice little twist, the miso soup was heartwarming and the mochi was a real good mochi (mind you it had kind of melted by the time we got to it as it was an ice cream filled mochi.

The second thing we got was the Yaki Udon, which is a Japanese stir fry dish. This was the highlight of our meal. It was packed full of flavour and spice. Our kind of noodle dish! Highly recommended. It was fiery, flavourful and tastyyyy stir fry noodle dish. It uses thick white udon noodles, which I feel compliment the dish and flavours exceptionally well and just make this dish that much more wholesome and filling. The staff, as mentioned, were very helpful in helping us choose the most suitable dishes for us. And this was a great great recommendation! And the portions were so big we had to take away the leftovers! And it was still AMAZING the day after!

Desserts and Indian

In the opposite corner to Coconut Tree (when you enter the food hall), you’ll find an Indian street food spot and a dessert spot that is run by the people behind Yaki Ya. So, they’re also fully halal. We didn’t try them, but we’ve heard the Indian place does halal momos which is hard to get in London and the dessert place has some wonderful unique Asian desserts and drinks. Definitely need to go back for their desserts. If their Japanese food is anything to go by, these two are also going to be top tier.

They are doing so well that they are expanding beyond this location to an actual brick and mortar sit down restaurant on Finchley Road and even beyond this country too – to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia! Exciting times!
