This was one of the finds of our trip to Istanbul. Something so unassuming and humble yet oh so delicious and flavourful. I think because we had never heard of it prior to trying it here also added to this amazement. It is a wrap that has sliced beef or chicken, parsley, raw onions, sumac and tomatoes inside it and usually served with pickled chillis and lemon. A very popular street food amongst locals and loved by tourists upon trying it. This is an absolute must when in Istanbul.
Where can you try it?
If you make your way to the Asian side, Kadikoy is an absolute foodie haven. In Kadikoy lives quite possibly the best Tantuni you’ll find in Istanbul. The name of the spot is Kadikoy Tantuni. You can watch the make them the Tantuni here live too.
If you don’t make it to the Asian side, there is also another good Tantuni spot right next to the Egyptian Spice Market. But I would urge you to try the one on the Asian side – a true gem serving a gem of a dish!
Where to try it in London?
Durak Tantuni is a must and a proper hidden gem in London. Find it on West Green Road.
