Is this the greatest Bournemouth hidden gem?
There are numerous halal restaurants in Bournemouth whether you want the typical Middle Eastern, Turkish or Indian food there is something for you. One of the best fish and chip shops is halal too! However, if you’re looking to try something different when in Bournemouth, check out this Malaysian spot.
Sambal Tumis (instagram: @sambaltumis1918) is a family run Malaysian restaurant serving up classics. They have a very authentic menu with numerous Malaysian and Indonesian dishes for you to try.
What we got:
Chicken Sate
Char Kuey Teow
Nasi Goreng
Nasi Pandan (lightly flavoured rice)
Roti Canai
Beef Rendang
Teh Tarik Ice
Black sesame ice cream
The nasi goreng was the best. It had a nice complexity to it and the charred taste was addictive! The char kuey teow was our least favourite – anyone who’s seen my Penang posts will know that Penang dishes HAVE to be consumed in Penang – we just haven’t had the same quality outside of the island. The other dishes were all good and would happily order again. The Teh Tarik Ice, which is an iced tea drink, was a good drink to wash down the food. It wasn’t as sweet or ‘creamy’ as the ones I tried in Malaysia.
The black sesame ice cream is from @yeekwanicecream. A former Dragon’s Den participant, turned successful ice cream legend, does amazing exotic flavours such as lychee, young coconut, Thai red tea, lime & lemongrass sorbet and pink guava & passion fruit sorbet! I opted for the black sesame because I recall the flavour being really good in China and haven’t had anything like it since. However, this wasn’t the same, but still was nice nonetheless.
All in all a nice clean spacious family friendly spot in the centre of Bournemouth. Come check it out after your next beach day!
