Review of Hotel Marhaba Club in Sousse Tunisia

Hotels in Sousse Tunisia seem to have a particular theme: cheap price, decent quality rooms, good service, access to a beach and a below par buffet. Let’s put Hotel Marhaba Club to the test and see if it is just like the rest or is it actually worth singling out as the one to stay in on your visit to Sousse. We got this as part of our easyJet holiday package. The below review will take a look at the price, the location, the quality of the rooms, the amenities, the service and the food! Let’s go!!

The price

Well, as mentioned this was part of an easyJet holiday package. So, the package included an all inclusive 3 night stay and flights. We went mid February. And it cost us £338 per person. At the time, I remember seeing this as one of the best priced deals and in fact had we booked the flights and hotels separately, I think the price would’ve ended up being the same. Some did tell us that different times of the year, you can get drastically cheaper (which is obvious I would’ve thought).

The location

It was perfectly located. About a 5-10 minute taxi ride away from the Medina / city centre. On a nice day it would even be a nice walk, I’d imagine (maybe 30 minutes?). Before going, I was slightly disappointed as I wanted to be close (i.e. walking distance) to the Medina, but nonetheless, it actually worked out. It was also located a 5 minute walk away from a street that was buzzing and popular amongst locals and it basically had all the most popular local street food dishes you need to try all on one street. Perfect for us and our blog!

The quality of the rooms

We got a double room with a balcony. The beds and pillows were comfortable, the room itself was spacious and the bathroom was clean. The balcony was spacious too, enough for two of us to sit out there (you could potentially fit in another two!). No complaints in this department.

The amenities & service

The room had an initial complimentary water and then you had access to an open bar, so it was always available. The wifi was good – we had no issues with that. Even managed to conduct Zoom meetings smoothly. The staff were very friendly especially when we first came. The dude who took our bags up and showed us to our room was a bit awkward after showing us to our room as he just stood there almost looking like he expected me to tip him. I don’t like that. The reception staff were always friendly with smiles. The others especially those in the buffet not so much (well most of them anyway). Also, they made us wear a tag (to indicate that we were full board), which I didn’t like as we couldn’t take it off and we were getting recognised due to it all the way out in the Medina! They have access to the beach, which was a very nice and pleasant part of the beach. Quiet, clean and family friendly; however, the weather wasn’t great, so it’d be interesting to see how it is during busy season.

The food

As this was an all inclusive it meant we had access to a breakfast, lunch and dinner buffet. These were at set times and we also had access to a snack and drinks bar. The snacks had a set time and the drinks were always available. Even though we didn’t dine here for every single meal we were there for (as we are foodies and we have to sample the local food scene), we did manage to try out at least one time for each meal. From the three the breakfast was probably the most basic and lowest in quality. I don’t like complaining about food especially a hotel buffet, but this wasn’t great. The dishes that were meant to be hot were cold and we were the first ones there as soon as they opened! Lunch was slightly better with some decent options and some average ones. The dessert counter looked amazing, but taste was slightly above average. Dinner was definitely the best, well at least the one night we dine in anyway. I think it was Tunisian night and wow we had some delicious dishes. The couscous and meat we had this particular night was probably the best couscous I’ve ever had!

Do I recommend?

The hotel is a good hotel if you’re looking for something on a budget. It has a decent location and the staff are helpful. The food is average on the whole, but then that is the theme with most hotels here from what I hear. Does it get a recommendation from me? Yes, it does!
