Dos Mas tacos are treating the people of London with delicious Halal birria tacos (@dosmas_tacos). It is a charming little spot in the Old Spitalfields market run by the wonderful @thetacotwins__ Speaking to them, it won’t take you long to realise their passion and love for their food. When you get owners like that, you know the end result is going to be delightful. Lovely lovely guys too! And also a shoutout to their team! The taco twins
Rupert and Charlie are the taco twins. A friendly fun loving duo who have a love for good food. They are the brains behind Dos Mas Tacos, a taco spot in the Old Spitalfields market in London. Combining their love for food and their Mexican experiences they knew they had something special to offer the people of London. And in fact this is where the name comes from. Dos Mas means two more in Spanish. When ordering tacos in Mexico, you do so in twos and also they are a duo and so the name Dos Mas tacos is born.
The menu
A nice simple menu is always a good sign for us and this is exactly what they have. I feel when a place has a concise menu with a few items, they will do those few things exceptionally well. And they have a passion for what they do as opposed to trying to do everything that is trendy (like many places these days). Tacos, Torta and burritos. Essentially there are four fillings: beef birria, chicken adobo, fish baja and mushroom. So, something really for everyone. Whether you’re after a quick bite or a filling lunch. Whether you’re meat person or a veggie person.
What we tried
We tried their tacos, specifically the beef birria and chicken adobo ones. And they were both sensational. The flavours will have you wanting more. Flavoursome and succulent. Generous fillings and succulent at the same time. Sometimes you get the meat being a tad dry with such dishes, but not here. They were juicy and in fact so juicy they can create a right mess! The fish baja Torta had a really nice comforting fried fish filling and combined with the freshness of the guacamole and the salads… wow. What a combo! It felt like an elevated fried fish sandwich. Actually just writing this now, I can imagine the fish baja being amazing in a taco too!
Fully halal.
They are fully halal. Everything on the menu is halal with no pork nor alcohol on site. They have Muslim members on the team helping them out making them aware of what constitutes halal and that certainly helps them. They’ve actually been halal for a couple of years now and they are pleased to report that they’ve received a welcoming response from the Muslim community. And they haven’t looked back since!
