Food places to try in the Clock Tower in Makkah
The Clock Tower is the best place to stay in Makkah, but when you're what food options do you have? This post will highlight your best options.
Food places to try in the Clock Tower in Makkah
Al Hanim – broast chicken

You have to try the famous Saudi broast chicken when in Saudi Arabia and even though you may have better options (e.g. Al Baik and Al Tazaj), this is probably your best spot to try this iconic dish at in the Clock Tower. You’ll find this place at the very top floor of the Mall (one above the food court). How did it taste? I liked the taste to be honest and upon a quick sampling it wasn’t too far off in taste compared to the big boys. Anyone who’s tried broast chicken will know it tastes slightly different to fried chicken – maybe slightly healthier and slightly lighter. Ensure you get the spicy version and you’ll taste the spice they add in-between the chicken and the breading. All in all, a great spot – can rarely go wrong with broast chicken.

Smashburger – smash burger

Smash burgers are all the craze in England. So, when we saw the bright smash burger sign from afar, we knew we had to give this Saudi version a go. Again, this is located on the top floor, right next to Al Hanim actually. We opted for the Saudi smash burger and we were pleasantly surprised. I say surprised not because I was expecting something bad, but I wasn’t expecting it to be as good. Was it the best smash burger I’ve had? Not even close, but definitely something to satisfy the burger craving I’m sure Western foodies will have. I’d say my wife enjoyed this one more than me.

Grilled chicken on rice

On the third floor of the mall where the food court is located, you’ll see a variety of different eateries. An overwhelming amount of them have a different look, but actually the same or similar menu. Essentially, grilled meats (chicken and kebabs) with different types of rice (kabsa, mandi, Bukhari and biryani) and fresh juices to choose from too (I call them the Makkah juices – you the five layer ones?). If you’re not sure what to eat from the food court and you’re not necessarily feeling something specific, then I’d say one of these spots is a safe bet. Grilled chicken on rice always hits the spot. This is probably my go to when here. Which one should you get it from? From what I know they all are selling the same thing, so take your pick and enjoy. Also, look out for their juices – I call them Makkah juices, not sure why, but yeah definitely give them a try too.

Shawarmat Mix – shawarma

There’s a shawarma spot in the food court too. It looks good on the outset and I guess it is pretty decent too. However, it will not be anywhere near the best shawarma you’ve had. It may just be enough to fulfil a shawarma craving, but I wouldn’t rush back to this spot to be honest.

Al Baik – delivery only

Let me just clarify. There is no Al Baik in the Clock Tower. However, a quick Google Maps search will show you an Al Baik in the food court area. This confused us as we looked and looked hard, but to no avail. What it is is a dude who picks up food from a nearby Al Baik and delivers to your hotel room in the Clock Tower. You can find his number on Google Maps. We didn’t actually use this service, but if you’re up for it, go for it!

Your usual Western food spots

And then there’s the usual Western eateries available here too, if that’s what you’re after. And I have a feeling many would be after this especially if they’re coming from the West. The craving for a Halal McDonald’s, KFC and Burger King is real. There’s also Baskin Robbins and Cinnabon (on the ground floor) for dessert.
