If you’re traveling to Dubai and want to buy something special and traditional for yourself or a loved one, then look no further than Bait Al Kandora. The traditional attire for men in the UAE and actually the Arabs is the thawb, which is also known as a dishdasha, jubba or as they refer to it here, kandora. It is something that is close to Islamic tradition too because it is something that is seen as modest and something that covers the necessary body parts that need to be covered by a man in public. There are many places you can buy kandoras in the country (ready-made or tailor-made), but if you’re after quality, this is the place. Tailor-made
For anyone who has worn a tailor-made kandora before, they’ll know the immense comfort, feel and look it has. Bait Al Kandora do ready-made kandoras that you can buy, but in my humble opinion, tailor-made is the way to go here. How does it work? You turn up, their experts measure you, you choose your material and colour, they’ll make your kandora for you. The official time frame they give is 7-10 days, but in reality it gets done way sooner. And if you’re in a rush, just have a word and they can do something for you. If you can’t get to their shop, they’ll come to you (i.e. your hotel) to take the measurements. They really go above and beyond to provide a top quality service. More about that below.
Top tier service
As mentioned above, they’re happy to come to your hotel to take your measurements if you can’t get there. If you’re in a rush and aren’t in the country for long, they can get it done sooner. If you want, you can use their online system to give them your measurements and they’ll have it for you when you land (which is what we did). If that kandora does not fit you the way you like, which happened to me, you can take it back to them and they’ll adjust it for you or make you a new one for free. Only a little adjustment was needed on mine and it was done in a day. A few members of the team were in touch with me via WhatsApp and they were very prompt in their communication. Always ready to answer and help. Once your kandora is done, they’ll deliver it to your hotel (for a small fee).
Price and sales
Converting into pounds, the cheapest tailor-made kandora will set you back about £60, which may seem steep for a kandora, but considering it is tailor-made and by the best of the best in the country, it’s reasonable. And what makes it even more reasonable is that they have 50% off sales and they have them frequently throughout the year.
