Aaraamam Restaurant: the best Keralan in Karama Dubai

Karama in Dubai is a hub for awesome Indian food, particularly South Indian food. As I scanned Google Maps to find the best eats in the area, there was this restaurant, which I could not spell nor pronounce the name that stood out due to its astounding number of reviews, positive reviews. I think it is on 6500 and counting! Aaraamam is the name of this popular restaurant and they specialise in the Kerala cuisine. Authenticity is vital here and you can see it on the menu as well as really taste it in the food. From breakfast to dinner they’ve got authentic Keralan dishes to keep your mouth watering and heart wanting to return numerous times to try out the different delicious and interesting offerings.

Authentic menu from breakfast to dinner

For breakfast you got the classics like dosa and appam and then for lunch you got the famous Kerala banana leaf meal that is rice with a variety of different dishes on a banana leaf. This is what I really wanted to try, but this is only for lunch and so if you get there in the evening or late afternoon, you won’t be able to try it anymore. They have intriguing chicken, mutton, beef, fish, duck, egg and vegetable curries to choose from too. Their beef fry is famously delicious especially accompanied with their other famous item: porotta, which is super flaky paratha. They also have authentic snacks on their menu for you to try and it seemed like banana fry was something that was very popular as every other table was ordering it while we were there (I think it’s an evening specific snack). Read on to see what we eventually did try.

Our experience

The restaurant was busy. We just about got a seat inside. The service was a bit slow, but maybe it is understandable because of how busy it was. As mentioned earlier we wanted to try the banana leaf meal, but we just missed the cut off time and so we had to get something else. We ordered a mutton curry as well as a fish curry. We also got porotta and rice. And as we were sat there we witnessed literally everyone order a cup of chai and it looked extra frothy and good. So, we obliged and ordered one too! How was everything? It was really good. This was an incredibly delicious meal. The standout dish for us was quite easily the fish curry. South Indians are known for their fish curries and boy this one did not let down the cuisine. It was flavourful, nice amount of fish meat on the fish and most impressively had a real kick to it too. South Indian fish curries are goat level and this is coming from someone who’s cuisine is fish rich.

We visited a year later and we left equally if not more satisfied than the first experience. We ordered an egg burji dish, a fish curry (unfortunately, they don’t do this spicy fish curry anymore apparently) and the famous beef fry. We were also served methi water on the house. Boy I cannot express how good the beef fry was. Quite possibly one of the best dishes I’ve had in the country… yes, it is that good! It will be criminal for you to go here and not order this. We loved this so much that we ordered another plate at the end of the meal even though we were full.

Overall, we were very impressed with the experience here. It can seem a bit chaotic in there due to how busy it is, but the food is incredible. It tastes super delicious and authentic. The flavours were truly there.
