Early Start: The Road to the Peaks

Leave London at around 7 am and set your sights on the enchanting Peak District. The scenic drive takes about three hours, allowing you to soak in the changing landscapes as you make your way to your adventure.

Breakfast Pit Stop

Halfway through your journey, make a pit stop at a service station for a quick breakfast. Treat yourself to a satisfying McDonald’s or Greggs breakfast to fuel up for the day ahead.

Explore Winnats Pass and Conquer Mam Tor

As you reach the Peak District, drive through the awe-inspiring Winnats Pass and head to Mam Tor. Park your car near Mam Tor, where various spots are available. Embark on a hike up Mam Tor, a panoramic viewpoint that rewards you with stunning vistas after a 30-45 minute climb.

Lunch with a View

Savour a picnic lunch surrounded by the beauty of the Peak District. Find a peaceful spot to enjoy your meal while soaking in the breathtaking landscapes that stretch before you.

Ladybower Reservoir: A Quiet Oasis

Drive to Ladybower Reservoir, though its appeal might be limited, as it may not be as dramatic as online pictures depict, especially if it’s not in operation during the dry season. This stop might be skipped in favour of other captivating destinations. Parking is limited though.

Bakewell Village: Charming Delights Await

Head to Bakewell village, a 30-minute drive away. Park your car in a convenient and affordable car park nearby. Immerse yourself in the charm of the village, taking time to explore shops like the Old Georgian Sweet Shop and quaint second-hand bookstores.

Culinary Delights at The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop

A must-visit in Bakewell is The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop. Step into a piece of culinary history dating back to 1865 and indulge in a traditional afternoon tea. Sample the legendary Bakewell pudding and tart that the village is famed for.

Unwind with Comfort Food

On your journey back towards London, stop at Habib’s Cromford Fish Bar. This halal eatery offers a comforting British dinner experience, featuring fish and chips that are a quintessential part of British cuisine. Enjoy freshly prepared cod and chips, battered sausage, and a range of sauces. Habib’s Cromford Fish Bar is about 20 minutes away from Bakewell and on the way back down towards London. So, it is convenient. This is a nice comforting British dinner you can finish your road trip with. It is hard to find halal eateries in the Peak District area let alone halal chippies where you can sample the quintessential British fish and chip experience. So, when we came across this spot here, we were super excited. We got the cod and chips, battered sausage and 4 sauces (curry, mushy peas, beans and gravy). Everything was fresh and delicious. The perfect way to end this trip.

Return Journey

With your heart full of memories and your taste buds satisfied, embark on your return journey to London. As the sun sets on your day trip, reflect on the beauty of the Peak District and the delightful experiences you’ve collected. We got back around 8 pm, which made our total journey time a little over 12 hours! But due to the long summer days in the UK, you’ll be back way before sunset. Perfect!

From the winding roads of Winnats Pass to the panoramic views atop Mam Tor, the quaint charm of Bakewell village, and the culinary delights of the Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop, your 12-hour Peak District itinerary is a perfect blend of adventure, culture, and indulgence.
