If you’re looking for a summer activity to do with the family (young and old) to enjoy the weather, then head over to your nearest fruit/veg/strawberry farm! Strawberry picking is such an awesome activity that gets you engaging with the wonderful outdoors and then going away with delicious fruit that epitomises the UK (is there a fruit more representative of the British summer than the strawberry?).
We visited the following pick your own farm: click here.
Grove Farm
Grove Farm is in Leighton Buzzard. It’s a ‘pick your own’ fruit and veg farm where you can literally pick their fruit and veg on your own and then you pay by the weight at the end. It’s a large amount of space that is home to a solid variety of fruit and veg. Open only during the summer months (June-October), they opened their gates a couple of weeks ago. We went on opening day and right now the only thing available and ready to pick are strawberries. So, if you’re interested in other things, mid-late July might be better when more things are ready. Nonetheless, it was a really nice morning out and something to enjoy the weather and a nice family activity. It was VERY busy on a Sunday morning showing the popularity of this activity.
Check out our video of our recent visit this year (here). And the below images are from a visit a few years ago.
How much does it cost?
Entry into the farm is free. Bring your own basket and all you pay for is the fruit or veg you want to take home. Alternatively, they also sell small baskets, which cost £1 a basket. The strawberries are currently £5.50 per kilo. Excessive eating is not allowed, so if you do want to nibble while you’re out there, do so reasonably. For the Halal Explorers not taking this rule seriously, remember haram is haram whether that is a sausage roll, alcohol or theft (however big or small it may be).
Overall, a great activity to do with the family during the summer. If you’ve never done it, go go go!!!
